Improved Surface Mass Balance Closure in Ocean Hindcast Simulations

نویسندگان

چکیده

Forced global ocean/sea-ice hindcast simulations are subject to persistent surface mass flux estimation biases, for example, configurations with an explicit-free may not take into account the seasonal storage of water on land when constraining sea level. We present a physically motivated closure, that results in: reduced watermass drift from initialization; improved Atlantic meridional overturning cirulation intensity; and more realistic rates ocean heat uptake, in using ocean/sea-ice/land (MOM6/SIS2/LM3) model configurations, forced atmospheric reanalysis data. In addition accounting storage, area-integrated subpolar-to-polar (40°–90°N/S) fluxes constrained, climatological estimate derived CMIP6 historical ensemble, which helps further improve performance. Simulations MERRA-2 JRA55-do forcing, identical hydrologic constraints, exhibit similar reductions drift.

Improved fold closure in mass-spring low-dimensional glottal models

This work presents a low-dimensional physical model of the glottis in which a 2-D fold displacement representation allows to represent both the vertical and longitudinal displacements of the folds. We use a one-mass mechanical model, coupled to aerodynamic driving forces, and we use a delay line representation to account for the propagation of the displacement on the body-cover. The waveform is...

Conventional versus reference-surface mass balance

Glacier surface mass balance evaluated over the actual glacier geometry depends not only on climatic variations, but also on the dynamic adjustment of glacier geometry. Therefore, it has been proposed that reference-surface balances calculated over a constant glacier hypsometry are better suited for climatic interpretation. Here we present a comparison of 82 year modelled time series (1926– 200...
